3-car class 115 DMU plus parts for sale.
Last updated 29th January 2025.              Jump to parts section

Offers are invited for the 3 car set consisting of two power cars M51886, M51899 and a non powered trailer car M59761.
The units were used on the Aylesbury to Marylebone line for thirty years.
M51886 and M51899 were built in Derby in 1960 to lot 30598 with 78 second class seats.
M51899 was the only unit to be  given a name plate "Aylesbury College Silver Jubilee 1987".
M59761 is a composite trailer built in 1960 to lot 30800.

The power cars are largely intact but will require overhaul, refurbishing and repainting. Seating is in place and in reasonable condition given the age.
Power cars offer the potential to be used as a passenger carrying "guards coach" (autocoach?) with ready fitted brake controls for reverse working.

The trailer car internally is in good condition (see photos below). Externally it needs paintwork sorting. It is fitted with a diesel heater.
Built as a composite (115TCL) with 30 1st class and 40 2nd class seats.

Class 115's are blue square coupling codes, Derby built originally as 4-car units. Historical information can be found here: https://www.railcar.co.uk/type/class-115/.

It is also worth noting that these units were built without using asbestos according to BR records.
These records are available to download on the Railcar website here: https://www.railcar.co.uk/topic/asbestos/.
The Railcar website also has lots of technical information including drawings and maintenance information for many of the parts: https://www.railcar.co.uk/technology/.

Some history and photographs of these units can be found on the preserved railcar website:   M51886  M59761  M51899

The units have been standing outside for some time and the external bodywork has deteriorated as can be seen in these generals views of the 3 car set:

The railway centre would ideally like to sell the 3-car DMU for refurbishing as a set.
However we will consider selling the trailer car separately and are willing to discuss other suggestions.
